Charm Against Fever

Whatever manner of Evil thou be,
In God's name I conjure thee.
I conjure thee with that holy cross
Where Christ was killed with force.
I conjure thee with the nails three
Which nailed Jesus to that tree.
I conjure thee with the crown of thorns
That was placed on Christ's head with scorn.
I conjure thee with the precious blood
That Jesus shed upon the rood.*
I conjure thee with the wounds five
That Christ suffered to end his life.
I conjure thee with that holy spear
That tore Christ's side so bare.
I conjure thee nevertheless
With all the virtues of the mass,
And all the prayers of Saint Dorothy.**
